2 dead after separate wrecks
Updated 07:32 a.m., September 21, 2009
At least two people died Sunday in separate wrecks in Dorchester County.
The coroner's office did not release the identities of the victims.
The first wreck was on Orangeburg Road about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The driver of a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling east on Orangeburg Road across U.S. Highway 78 when the truck struck a ditch and ended up in a wooded area, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. The driver was wearing a seat belt, and the accident is under investigation, he said.
The wreck was discovered at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the state Highway Patrol.
The second fatal wreck was on a dirt road near U.S. Highway 17-A and Clubhouse Road at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, according to the Highway Patrol. The driver of a 1998 Toyota pickup ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, struck a ditch and overturned. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, Beres said.
Earlier versions of this story incorrectly reported the number of fatal wrecks the Highway Patrol was working in Dorchester County.
