Woman dies after Interstate 26 crash
A 23-year-old Goose Creek woman has died from injuries she received in a crash that also injured two others along Interstate 26 in Berkeley County late Thursday night.
Amanda Gunter was a passenger in a car that crashed near the eastbound 192 mile marker around 11:45 p.m., authorities said. She was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the Toyota Camry. She died early Friday at Medical University Hospital, according to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office.
Her husband, 24-year-old Edmond Gunter, was driving the car when it went off the side of the road, Highway Partrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. He steered back onto the roadway but lost control of the car, which flipped over, he said.
A van driven by Johnny Wilson Smith Jr., 45, of North Charleston, crashed into the overturned car, Beres said.
The Gunters' 1-year-old child was transported to Medical University Hospital for treatment, and a passenger in Smith's van was taken to Trident Medical Center, Beres said. The names and conditions of those victims were unavailable Friday.
The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
