The West Ashley Wildcats rolled up 493 total yards, 316 on the ground, Friday night as they defeated visiting Baptist Hill, 44-6. Senior quarterback K. J. Cohen completed 9 of 13 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats.

West Ashley (2-0) has averaged over 460 yards in its first two wins, but coach Bobby Marion has been here before.

"We started last year 2-0 and got beat by an 0-2 Wando team," he said. "We have to learn from that."

The Wildcats have never been 3-0 to start a season in their brief eight-year existence and play at Wando next week.

The night belonged to West Ashley as it scored on all five of its possessions in the first half. Senior tailback Derek Johnson scored from a yard out to complete a 45-yard drive. Cohen threw for 62 of the Wildcats' 75 yards on their next possession and hit tight end Donovan Burns from 24 yards out to make it 14-0.

"K.J. has been very good for us in these first two games," said Marion. "His running and passing have been great."

Cohen ran four times for 52 yards. Senior running back Rodney Scott scored from 7 yards to cap a 50-yard drive, and Cohen hit Preston Bibler for a 15-yard score to give the Wildcats a 28-0 lead. Adkins added a 29-yard field goal on the last play of the half to make it 31-0.

The Wildcats continued to roll in the second half as they scored on their sixth straight possession to go up 37-0. Scott scored his second TD of the night on a 5-yard run. Midway through the third quarter, Marion started to empty his bench, and West Ashley's last score was sophomore Jamie Rivers' 3-yard run with four minutes remaining. That score capped a 13-play drive for the Wildcats reserves.

The Bobcats' lone highlight of the evening was senior running back Shaun Middleton. He rushed for 104 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Shaquiell Mitchell hit Devin Gilliard for a 3-yard score with just over three minutes left.

The lone negative on the night for the Wildcats was penalties. They were penalized 11 times after racking up 10 last week.

"We aren't as disciplined as we need to be, and that's on me and my staff," Marion said.
