Scott collects $150,000 for race

COLUMBIA -- Charleston County Republican Rep. Tim Scott is expected to jump into the race for lieutenant governor.
Scott announced Tuesday that in 10 days he has raised more than $150,000 from about 110 contributors.
"To focus on senior citizens, our greatest generation, is something that I am very interested in," Scott said.
South Carolina's lieutenant governor is charged with running the Office on Aging and presiding over the Senate. The lieutenant governor is also next in line if the governor can no longer serve.
Scott said he is prepared for the position because of the 13 years he spent on Charleston County Council as well as his experience in business. He was council chairman for four years.
Scott also said that in a 10-year period while on council he helped recruit 25,000 jobs to the Lowcountry.
Last year, Scott became the first black Republican elected to the House since Reconstruction. He was elected chairman of the freshman caucus by his peers.
He is president and chief executive officer of Tim Scott and Associates, an entrepreneurial venture that offers financial services, insurance coverage and other services.
Here are the other candidates in the running for lieutenant governor and the contributions they have raised so far: Pee Dee businessman and Florence County Councilman Ken Ard, $145,200; Army Reservist Bill Connor of Orangeburg, $105,838; and Lexington real estate broker and state Rep. Ted Pitts, $13,045.
All are Republicans. No Democrats had filed disclosure forms with the State Ethics Commission as of Tuesday.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, a Republican, is expected to run for governor.
