W. James "Jim" McNerney Jr.
Title: Chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Boeing Co. since July 1, 2005.
Background: McNerney previously was chairman and CEO of 3M, a $20 billion global technology company. He joined 3M in 2001 after 19 years at General Electric Co., where his executive postings included president and CEO of GE Aircraft Engines and GE Lighting; president of GE Asia-Pacific; and president and CEO of GE Electrical Distribution and Control. He also has worked at Procter & Gamble and McKinsey & Co., Inc.
Education: Bachelor's degree from Yale and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard.
NOTABLE 787 EXECUTIVES
James Albaugh
Title: President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes since Sept. 1. Boeing's senior executive in the Pacific Northwest.
Background: He joined Boeing as a project engineer in 1975. Previously, he was president and CEO of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems.
Education: Bachelor's degrees in mathematics and physics from Willamette University and a master's degree in civil engineering from Columbia University.
Michael Bair
Title: Vice president of business strategy and marketing for Boeing Commercial Airplanes since October 2007. Previously, he was vice president and general manager for the 787 program. Joined Boeing in 1979 as an engineer.
Education: Bachelor's degree in physics from Washington State University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Puget Sound in 1982. Also has a master's degree from the Alfred P. Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Patrick Shanahan
Title: Vice president and general manager of airplane programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes since December 2008. He is responsible for the design, assembly, delivery and support of the 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787 airplanes. Previously was vice president and general manager of the 787 program. He joined Boeing in 1986.
Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington and a dual master's degree in mechanical engineering and management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Scott Fancher
Title: Vice president and general manager of the 787 program since December 2008. Previously, he was vice president and general manager of Boeing Missile Defense Systems. Joined Boeing in 1983.
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Washington University. Also, a master's degree in business administration from Washington University's Executive MBA program.
Geoffrey Schuler
Title: Chief operating officer of Boeing Charleston since July 2009. Previously, he was the on-site Boeing executive at Vought Aircraft's 787 plant in North Charleston.
Education: Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from West Virginia University, and a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University.
