Appetizers, atmosphere highlight Mt. Pleasant's Dog & Duck

The Dog & Duck at Belle Hall in Mount Pleasant is one of three area locations (the others are in Summerville and Park West).

The folks at the "family-oriented, English-style pub" have long established a reputation as one of the better spots in the Lowcountry to stop for food or a cold brew.

The atmosphere is welcoming and casual. So casual, in fact, that true to its name, Dog & Duck is a dog-friendly establishment. I'm not sure about their duck policy.

Featuring sandwiches, wraps, salads and being an English-style pub, the obligatory fish and chips, Dog & Duck has plenty of bar-appropriate appetizer "munchies."

A favorite is the "D & D Daycare," featuring children's menu items (mini corn dogs, chicken bites, mini cheeseburgers) put together on a sampler platter for "big kid" consumption.

Dog & Duck's bar area is accommodating and comfortable, though the patio area might be most ideal when the weather is right. They feature an extensive list of domestic and import beers and on weekends from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. customers are invited to "build your own Bloody Mary."

In all, the Dog & Duck is exactly what it advertises: a clean, laid-back environment suitable for enjoying a few beers with friends or families looking for a casual and affordable lunch or dinner.
