College of Charleston Opera presents 'battle of the sexes'
The College of Charleston Opera opens its 2009-10 season with the Broadway revue, "I Can Do Without You." The fast-paced musical tribute to the "battle of the sexes" will be one night only at 8 p.m. Friday. Musicals represented include "South Pacific," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Camelot," "Chicago" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."
The performance be in the Recital Hall of the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St. Adult tickets for individual performances are $10. Student tickets are $5. A season subscription plan is available. For reservations, call 953-4311. Visit sota.cofc.edu.

Children's Museum of the Lowcountry hosts Fall Fun House
The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry will host its Fall Fun House at 5-7 p.m. Saturday. The event includes carnival games, Halloween arts & crafts, the mystery touch tank, face painting and treats.
All new this year is the Costume Fashion Show and Costume Contest to be hosted by Charleston Fashion Week's Ayoka Lucas. The fashion show will begin at 5:15 p.m. and prizes will be awarded in categories such as "Best Homemade Costume," "Best Use of Sparkles" and "Most Like a CML Exhibit."

South of Broadway hosts Deuce Theatre's "Treeligion"
Deuce Theatre presents an original production focused on religion, "Treeligion." The play is created in part with input from audience surveys, interpretive dance, song and stick fighting. Cast includes Michael Catangay, Arlene Lagos, Tuan Le, Jessica Spaid and Andrea Studley.
"Treeligion" will be performed through Nov. 8 at South of Broadway Theatre on 1080 E. Montague Avenue in North Charleston. The first show will be 8 tonight. Participants dressed in a Halloween costume Saturday get in free. For reservations, dates and times, visit www.deucetheatre.com.

Gallery 57's free Day of the Dead exhibit
From 7-10 p.m. Sunday, Gallery 57 will host a Day of the Dead exhibit and party. The Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, is celebrated on Nov. 1 and 2, when the dead are allowed to return home and visit their loved ones. In preparation, family members build altars to honor their dead relatives. Gallery 57 will be exhibiting altars made by various local artists.
The gallery will have traditional decorations including sugar skulls, Calaveras (the male skeletons) and Catrinas (female) and art from various Mexican artists. Mexican food, beer, Mariachi Band and fire dancing are included.

Dark Arts Ball at Eye Level Art
Eye Level Art's Dark Arts Ball is a Halloween gala of mischief and delight with a portion of the proceeds benefiting The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Trident Area. The party will feature an open bar, complimentary food, burlesque show, music by DJ CMNDR and Stella by Starlight.

HarborFest features Pretty Lights
Collaborative Productions' first Haunted HarborFest will begin at 10 p.m. Saturday and end at 4 a.m. Sunday at Vue at Ripley Pointe. The party features scheduled performances by more than six different bands and DJs playing funk, house, reggae, electronic and rock music. Pretty Lights will close out the event in the early morning hours.
The Haunted HarborFest event lineup includes indoor and outdoor concurrent music sets, graffiti artists, painted dancers, a lights show and a costume contest with a $300 cash prize.
A portion of the proceeds will go to nonprofit organization Conscious Alliance.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event and can be purchased at www.hauntedharborfest.com or by calling 800-838-3006. Vue at Ripley Pointe is at 116 Ripley Drive in Charleston.
Patrons must be 18 years or older to attend.
