Each year, schools from around the world engage in the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Week.

Stall High's first official DECA Week was Oct. 12-17.

DECA is an association for marketing students that was founded in 1946. The goal is to prepare its members for possible careers in marketing management and entrepreneurship.

Students have the opportunity to develop educational and leadership skills through hands-on projects and community events.

Stall High participants' slogan for the week was "Is ur lyf worth txt?" Its target is to promote no texting while driving. Facts about texting and driving were announced every morning. Students and staff members spread the word "just drive; don't text," and T-shirts with the slogan were $7.

In addition to encouraging safe driving, Stall's DECA club is reaching for "Diamond status," the highest level a chapter can achieve.

To reach the goal, members plan to recruit 10 more members and 10 alumni or business members and to hold at least five professional events through Nov. 15.

DECA is sponsoring Financial Aid Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 in the media center at Stall. Its first regional competition will be Dec. 7.
