Mom charged in death of 16-month-old daughter
Associated Press
Monday, October 19, 2009
CROSS HILL — A mother has been charged with murder in the death of her 16-month-old daughter.
Multiple media outlets report that 21-year-old Ashley Nicole Hepburn of Cross Hill is accused of causing brain injury to her child. Audrina Hepburn died at a Greenville hospital Saturday night.
Authorities say Nicole Hepburn told deputies the child had been fussy and teething, but otherwise was fine when she put her in the crib around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.
Laurens County sheriff’s spokeswoman Judy Stiles said Hepburn was charged with abuse by inflicting great bodily harm on a child Oct. 16, a few days after the child was admitted into a hospital. Stiles says the charges were upgraded to murder when the child died Saturday.
