Education
William B. Traxler Jr., has joined the faculty of the Charleston School of Law as a visiting professor of law. Traxler has been chief judge of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals since July and has served on the federal bench since 1992. He has a bachelor's degree from Davidson College and a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Dr. Ajani Ade Ofunniyin has been named provost of The American College of the Building Arts. He has a bachelor's degree in social science and special education from Fordham University and a master's degree and Ph.D in anthropology, both from the University of Florida.
Jim Scott and Amy Reed have joined the The Art Institute of Charleston and LaShanda Scott has been promoted.
Jim Scott is a faculty member in the interior design program. He is a registered architect, and he has bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Miami and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Towson State University. Previously, he taught at the University of Miami, was a designer for architectural firms, and owned an architectural firm in Miami.
Reed is a faculty member in the graphic design program. She has a bachelor's degree from the College for Creative Studies and is founder of Web design firm Helium Inc. She has more than 15 years experience in the marketing services industry and had been the creative director for traditional advertising and interactive media firms.
LaShanda Scott has been promoted to director of residence life and housing. Previously, she was assistant director of residence life and housing at The Art Institute of Charlotte. She has a bachelor's degree from Clemson University and a master's degree from Strayer University.
Food service
Racheal K. Conture has joined Melvins Inc. as director of marketing and catering for Melvin's Legendary BBQ in Mount Pleasant and James Island. She attended Barry University and L'Academie de Cuisine.
Health care
Dr. Robert Schoderbek Jr. has joined Orthopaedic Specialists of Charleston, a member of Roper St. Francis Physician Partners. He has a bachelor's degree in biological engineering from North Carolina State University and a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala.
Dr. Julia H. Saylors has joined Charleston Cancer Center and will work from its locations in North Charleston and Walterboro with a focus on breast cancer and hematologic malignancies. She has a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and psychology from Clemson University and a medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Hospitality
Amber Ferguson has been promoted to sales manager for Patrick Properties Events. She has more than eight years of hospitality experience, and previously she worked in event sales and coordination for the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. Also, Stephanie Bente has joined Patrick Properties Events as events manager. She has a culinary degree from the Art Institute of Atlanta and has more than 15 years of catering and hospitality experience. Previously, she was an event manager and pastry chef for Sun in my Belly.
Nonprofit
Holly Johnson has joined Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina as a field director for the West Ashley area. She has a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Coastal Carolina University. Previously, she was with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.
The Charleston-based National Association For Continence has announced several staff changes.
Meghan Hansen has been promoted to development manager. She has 10 years of experience in the health care industry. She has a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University. Leah Hyatt has joined the association as health educator and member services associate. She has a bachelors degree from Wofford College. Allison Wilfong has joined the group as communications and public relations associate. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of South Carolina.
Law
Terence M. Hoffman has joined the Wigger Law Firm in North Charleston as an attorney. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from the College of Charleston and a law degree from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
Mortgage
Kevin Brookes has joined Southern Trust Mortgage Co.in Charleston as a senior mortgage loan officer. Previously, he was with Wachovia and RBC.
Technology
Kate Powell, Kelsey Roberts and Laura Stanley have joined Benefitfocus in its Charleston office. Powell is account consultant; Roberts is business analyst; and Stanley is account consultant.
Vehicle repair
Dwayne Jennings has joined Glasspro Inc. as director of operations with responsibility for all nine Glasspro locations. He has 25 years of operational management experience.
