Club Pantheon will 'Blume' with multimedia art event

Blume is a tri-annual art event organized by a small group of local artists and students to promote the progressive and underground art and music culture in Charleston. The one-night only event fuses a high quality art show with the energy and atmosphere of a club.

"Body" is the theme of the show which will be at Club Pantheon, 28 Ann St., downtown. Among the many works will be a special curated set of wood panels. Two selected artists will be on stage doing live painting on Plexiglas. And guests can have shirts screen-printed by design team Manufactur.

DJs include DJ Sonar, NeonGolden, JeffyT, CMNDer, Machete and Rocky Horror.

The majority of the proceeds will go to the Conscious Alliance and the Charleston Women's Collective.

Tickets are $7 at the door and $10 for those underage. The night starts at 9 p.m. with an artist reception. Call 577-2582 or e-mail matthew@manufacturconcept.com.

Name (Y)our Space fundraiser at The Upper Deck

The Upper Deck Tavern will host a fundraiser for a new community arts center in Charleston. The fundraiser will feature performances by local musicians and an exhibit of local artists. Guests will be encouraged to make suggestions for the name with one chosen at the end of the event. All of the money raised will go to pay for the art space, which is set to open this winter.

There will be performances by Rachel Kate, Chad Pirtle, Short Shorts, Puberty and T.A.R.A. Also DJ sets by CMNDer and Machete.

It all kicks off at 7 p.m. at The Upper Deck Tavern, 353 King St., downtown Charleston. Admission is $5. Call 958-0002 or e-mail kim@maltedmilk.org.

Race for the Cure

Race for the Cure, which includes a 1-mile fun run and walk and a 5K run and walk, is the largest single fundraiser for the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure. It will take place at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Daniel Island. The 1-mile event starts 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The 5K begins at 9:10 a.m. An awards ceremony starts at 10 a.m.

Registration and packet pick-up will be 7 a.m. Saturday at the Tennis Center.

Goal for this year's event is 8,000 participants. Visit www.komenlowcountry.org.

Fall Design Walk 2009

Charleston's Upper King Design District's Fall Design Walk will begin at 5 p.m. today. King Street stores between Calhoun to Spring streets will remain open late for shoppers, offer special events and serve refreshments. Many restaurants in the district will have food and beverage events after 8 p.m.

Mayor Joe Riley will kick-off the event with a ceremony at the new Seeking Indigo at 445 King Street. Other new arrivals include Charleston Power Yoga, 557 King St.; Sweet 185, Sugaring Studio and Organic Boutique, 476 King St.; Butterfly Women's Consignment Boutique, 282 King St.; Aster Hall Gallery, 481 King St. and the second Cannon Elliot Lounge at 45 John St.

Local pianist Sean Kennard performs with Charleston Symphony Orchestra

College of Charleston's Sean Kennard will perform "Heroic Beethoven" with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday at Gaillard Auditorium, 77 Calhoun St., downtown.

Charleston Symphony's Music Director David Stahl will be conducting the evening, including the Overture to Egmont, Piano Concerto No. 3 and Symphony No. 3 ("Eroica").
