Shooting believed to be accidental
HOLLYWOOD — Authorities believe a 24-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself Sunday while sitting inside a parked vehicle at a car wash.
James Jenkins died of a single gunshot wound to the head, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay.
Charleston County Sheriff's deputies responded to the business at 308 S.C. Highway 162 in Hollywood about 4 p.m. and found the man with a single gunshot wound to the right side of his head, Maj. John Clark said. The shot was from a small-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
EMS took Jenkins to the Medical University Hospital, where he later died. Investigators have talked to member's of the man's family and found other evidence that leads them to believe the shooting was most likely accidental, Clark said.
