Horse pulling carriage falls

Friday, October 9, 2009

A horse pulling a tour carriage for Carolina Polo and Carriage Co. fell near the corner of Broad and Legare streets Thursday morning.

No passengers were injured, and the group completed the tour on another carriage, according to Charleston Office of Tourism Management Director Vanessa Turner-Maybank. The horse had lifted one hind leg higher than the other and became twisted in the carriage, Turner-Maybank said.

City officials and a veterinarian investigated and determined the fall was an accident, she said. The horse, named Yemassee, suffered two abrasions but was cleared to work today, Turner-Maybank said.
