Stone's throw dinner: Jasmine Porch restaurant at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort holds its second quarterly "Stone's Throw Dinner Series" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston. The four-course meal will feature ingredients procured from a "stone's throw" (within 100 miles) of Kiawah Island. Garden project fundraiser: Slow Food Charleston and the Charleston Area Children's Garden Project are hosting a kid-friendly fundraiser at Sanders-Clyde Elementary School 5-7 p.m. Thursday. The event will showcase the progress the students have made on their organic garden, planted a year ago. Free, but donations appreciated. Sanders-Clyde is at 220 Nassau St. in downtown Charleston.

Lowcountry field feast: FIG chef Mike Lata will lead a field trip and cook a family-style supper to benefit Lowcountry Local First. The event is 3 p.m. until dark Sunday at Keegan Filion Farms in Walterboro. Tickets are $125. For tickets and directions, visit www.lowcountryfieldfeast.com.

Book signings: Holly Herrick will sign copies of her new cookbook, "The Southern Farmers Market Cookbook" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Charleston Cooks!, 194 East Bay St., as part of the cooking class Fall Farmers Market. $60; signing will follow the class. Other signings will be 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Charleston Farmers Market, Marion Square; and 7-10 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2-5 p.m. Oct. 18 in the author's home in conjunction with the Preservation of Society of Charleston's Fall Tours of Home and Gardens. S'ville Kitchen Tour: Nine homes and gardens and gourmet goodies from Lowcountry chefs will be part of the seventh Scrumptious Summerville Kitchen Tour 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds will benefit Children in Crisis. Tickets on sale Tuesday at www.dorchesterchildrensctr.org.

Oysters for outreach: All-you-can-eat oyster roast, chili, hot dogs and coleslaw from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 18 at Bowen's Island. Includes auction and live music. Sustainable Seafood: The Sustainable Seafood Initiative at the S.C. Aquarium is hosting a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Wild Olive on Johns Island. Family picnic: The Friends and Needed Supporters of the Charleston Museum will host the annual family picnic 1-4 p.m. Oct. 25. The event will be at the museum's Dill Sanctuary, 1163 Riverland Drive, James Island. Tickets (all-inclusive) are $15/member adult, $20/nonmember adult, $7/child, and children 5 and under free. Call for Festival vendors: Applications are available to become a vendor inside the FedEx Grand Tasting Tents inside the Culinary Village at the 2010 BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival on March 4-7. Vendors are required to supply a food or beverage sample throughout all sessions. Interested companies can apply until Nov. 15.
