South Carolina 21 / Clemson 13

The way it works

The tradition-rich BRB predicts what to expect from a mythical Clemson-South Carolina game each week leading up to the actual Braggin’ Rites clash on Nov. 28 in Columbia. The toolbox includes computers, game analysis, quarterback play and other stuff.

The set-up

Clemson has a bye week to fix its problems on offense, defense and special teams. A little touch-up here and there and the Tigers might be fine heading into an Oct. 17 game against Wake Forest. But how Dabo Swinney and his coaching staff handle two weeks of heat might shape the season. South Carolina right now is what Swinney wants from his program: A team getting a bit better each week. The Gamecocks are in position to pound Kentucky on Saturday to set up a huge game at Alabama.

The vibe

Please, Gamecock fans, don’t peek ahead to Tuscaloosa … Except for the next few seconds. Kentucky is a battered squad, having just played Florida and Alabama. Stephen Garcia, you realize, has never lost to the Wildcats, having come off the bench for a win last season in Lexington. The shaky Atlantic Coast Conference standings on the Atlantic Division side give Clemson an opening in which first place isn’t all that demanding. The division champ doesn’t have to ooze greatness, just survive.
