Six Stall High School band members from the 2008-09 school year are (from left) Deonte Stewart, Shavonda Young, Judsen Butler, Ronald Smalls, Christopher Washington and Albert Jenkins. Shavonda and Albert graduated in 2009.

Over the summer, R.B. Stall High School's Band of Blue, with more than 45 musicians and two parent-guardian chaperons, attended band camp at Southern Wesleyan University in Central.

The Warriors left for camp Aug. 2 and returned Aug. 8.

Braeden Kershner is in his third year as band director. "Marching band is where education meets entertainment," he said.

At band camp, he required the Band of Blue to practice on Wesleyan's field. The band performed in three events: Aug. 4 at a Greenville Drive baseball game; Aug. 5 at a neighborhood celebration; and Aug. 6 in a show for the community.

On their return, Kershner gave awards to three students: Aaron Potter, Talick McClellan and Nick D'Amico. Aaron won the extra-mile award, which is given to the person who helps out by picking up trash and helping others. The integrity award went to Talick, and Nick was honored as the Most Outstanding Band Camper.

The Stall Warriors will have three other events. The band will perform at two S.C. Stingrays games, one Nov. 20, and another Dec. 12, and at the North Charleston Christmas Parade on Dec. 6.
