South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster says there's no doubt a naval brig near Charleston could securely house detainees arrested in the war on terror.

The state's top prosecutor visited the brig in Hanahan for 2 1/2 hours Monday. McMaster opposes bringing in detainees from Guantanamo, Cuba, because residential and businesses around the brig could be soft targets for terrorists.

McMaster visited the brig to discuss security and says the brig staff and facility are top notch.

He says any attempt to break out a detainee would likely fail. But McMaster says he's not as worried about a breakout as terrorists trying to make a statement by targeting civilians who live and work near the brig.
