Mount Pleasant tree lighting ceremony at Memorial Waterfront

Mount Pleasant will host a Tree of Lights ceremony at Memorial Waterfront Park at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The 21-foot-tall tree will have nearly 600 Christmas lights and be topped with a star.

Entertainment will include local performers and a Toys for Tots drive at 7 p.m. in the Cooper River Room at the Visitor Center.

16 Penny Gallery at 52.5 Records

16 Penny Gallery is a new gallery space opening within 52.5 Records, 561 King St. Focusing on affordable art, the gallery will feature more than 200 screen prints from artists all over the United States, as well as original art from local artists.

Chuck Keppler (www.chuck-keppler.com) has collaborated with 52.5 Records in the past to curate art shows. Featured artists include Leia Bell, Strawberryluna, Johnny Pundt, Chuck Keppler, Mike Klay, Phillip Hyman, Adam Turman, Jeff Lamm, Crosshair, Pete Cardoso and Matt Pfahlert/Get a Clue Design. More artists will be added soon and new art is added weekly.

The opening reception will be 7-9 p.m. Dec. 4.

TUESDAY

Corey Webb presents music composition 'Let the Giant in Peace'

The College of Charleston School of the Arts will be presenting the work of Corey Webb in his original arrangements of folk music that blends modern technology, science fiction, catchy songs, and classical instruments.

"Let the Giant in Peace," which benefits the College of Charleston Composers Foundation, will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Recital Hall in the Simons Center for the Arts.

The performance includes musicians from the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and the college featuring piano, cello, French horn, a synthesizer, drums, guitar and vocals.

Footlight's 'The Sound of Music'

The Footlight Players will present "The Sound of Music" at 8 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Footlight Players on 20 Queen Street. Village Playhouse's 'Shipwrecked!'

The Village Playhouse sets sail in the tale to beat all tales in Pulitzer Prize winning Donald Margulies' latest production, "Shipwrecked!" All shows will be at the Playhouse, 730 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant and stars Evan Parry, Addison Dent and Katherine Chaney.
