SoCon honors 10 Bulldogs

The Citadel landed five players on the coaches all-Southern Conference football team announced Tuesday, and five more on the all-freshman team.

Record-setting Andre Roberts was the only Bulldog named to the first team, as a receiver and as a return specialist.

Offensive lineman Dan DeHaven, tight end Alex Sellars, defensive tackle Terrence Reese and linebacker Jordon Gilmore made the second team.

The Citadel had two quarterbacks, Tommy Edward and Miguel Starks, named to the all-freshman squad, along with running back Van Dyke Jones, defensive end Chris Billingslea and safety Joseph Boateng.

Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards was named SoCon offensive player of the year for the second straight year, while Chattanooga end Josh Beard won defensive player of the year honors.

App State lineman Mario Acitelli won the Jacobs Blocking Award, while Mountaineers coach Jerry Moore shared coach of the year honors with Chattanooga's Russ Huesman. Freshman of the year was Western Carolina running back Michael Johnson.

Elon senior Chris Werden of James Island was a first-team selection on the offensive line.
