Officials continue to probe shooting
WALTERBORO -- Colleton County authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting incident in which a man showed up at a truck stop at Interstate 95 and S.C. Highway 61 outside Walterboro on Friday evening with gunshot wounds.
The call came in at about 6:33 p.m. from Circle C Truck Stop in reference to a shooting victim coming inside the store. When deputies arrived, they found Michael Hawkins, 28, of Alonzo Road, St. George, with several gunshot wounds including one to his jaw area.
The victim had been driven to Circle C where a medic unit was called.
The victim was conscious and alert, but where the shooting took place and by whom is still unclear, Colleton County Sheriff George A. Malone said Saturday. The incident remains under investigation.
Hawkins was at Medical University Hospital. His condition report was not immediately available.
