SIM Group hires pair, kitchen remodeler wins award, Walterboro estate sale proceeds to go to charity
McFadden, Pangrass added to brokerage
Two Charleston area real estate veterans have joined the SIM Group Sales & Marketing LCC.
Kimber McFadden is the new director of sales/broker-in-charge of the sales and marketing group, and Patricia Pangrass is a sales associate stationed at the Daniel’s Orchard neighborhood in downtown Summerville.
McFadden has more than 20 years of experience in sales management. She previously has been involved with sales teams for KB Home, Palmetto Traditional Homes and The I’On Group. McFadden is a past winner of the South Carolina Home Builders Association Prism Award for Sales Manager of the Year.
Pangrass, meanwhile, has more than 15 years of sales and management experience. She has worked with Centex Homes, KB Home, Schumacher Homes and Beazer Homes. Pangrass is a past recipient of the state Home Builders Prism award for Outstanding Sales Volume. She also won a Customer Service Award at Centex Homes.
Jeff Coggin, president and chief executive of The SIM Group, says the pair bring “experience and energy to our organization, and both will play an integral role in our plans moving forward.”

Acker claims top design trophy
An honor bestowed recently on a Charleston area interior designer was more than a one-year shout-out but recognition of longtime achievement.
Duval Acker, owner of Kitchens By Design fine kitchen and bathroom design and installation business in Mount Pleasant, recently accepted the Dora Gray Award at the Carolinas Chapter ASID 2009 Excellence in Design Gala in Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
The award is presented to ASID members who have demonstrated a lifetime of outstanding and significant contributions to the Carolinas Chapter, the society and the profession of interior design.
Acker has served on the Carolinas chapter board since 1999, is a past chapter president, and is currently serving as the chapter’s design community director.
Acker says, “I am deeply honored to receive the stellar Dora Gray Award from ASID Carolinas for 2009. It’s a privilege to serve my fellow ASID members and to work alongside many talented, dedicated professionals.”
Here is a sampling of what her peers had to say: “The passion for our profession displayed by this nominee is inspiring in so many ways. As design community director, this person has worked tirelessly to bring together a group of dedicated people to get the design communities growing and keep them strong.
“Two or three years ago, the nominee was instrumental in the revival of our design legislation efforts in South Carolina … She has spent many hours writing letters, making phone calls, attending meetings in person and via conference call, or talking with people about the importance of our legislative efforts.”
Proceeds from mansion sale to go to charities
The sale of a 7.3-acre estate in Walterboro’s historic district will involve unusual benefactors — area programs for early childhood literacy and other community needs.

Orange Grove Place is located in the Walterboro historic district. The Coastal Community Foundation will allocate funds from the property's sale.
Charleston-based The Coastal Community Foundation has been appointed to distribute proceeds from the sale of Orange Grove Place. Early childhood literacy is one of the many local community programs that will benefit from the estate’s sale.
Orange Grove Place, built in the Federal style circa 1823, has been carefully restored. The estate includes a 6,091-square-foot main house featuring hand-crafted antique furnishings and original art work spread about a dozen rooms, all with 12-foot ceilings. There are four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. Three guest cottages have another four bedrooms and three baths.
The offering price is $1.25 million.
The landscaped property is behind a tree-lined avenue of ancient oaks at 527 Wichman St. in Walterboro, the seat of Colleton County. The estate was honored by the Beaufort Historic Foundation as worthy of a conservation easement.

Five local groups will benefit from Carolina One Real Estate’s generosity this quarter.
The company’s Charitable Contributions Committee meets every three months to consider charitable applications. Awards are made from the available interest funds from the venture’s charitable escrow account.
Five local agencies were each awarded a $1,000 unrestricted grant. They are Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, Crisis Ministries, My Sister’s House, Love Inc. and Ronald McDonald House Charities Charleston.
The committee has 12 members. Applications for funding are available to nonprofit organizations possessing a 501 (c) 3 designation by calling (843) 202-2004.
