Officials investigate shooting in Colleton County

Saturday, November 21, 2009

A man showed up at a truck stop at Interstate 95 and S.C. Highway 61 outside Walterboro Friday evening with gunshot wounds, Colleton County Sheriff George Malone said.

"But we don't know if he was shot in Colleton County," Malone said. "The victim is not being cooperative."

Malone said the victim lives in Dorchester County and might have been shot there. The truck stop is close to the county line, he said.

Until the site of the shooting is determined, there is no way to know if the incident was related to the spate of recent shootings in Walterboro, Malone said.

The area remains saturated with extra law enforcement officers in the wake of last week's fatal shootings. A full team of officers was dispatched to the truck stop, Malone said.

The man had been shot in his arm and his cheek. He was taken to Medical University Hospital.
