Fundraiser planned for Saturday

LINCOLNVILLE -- Saturday is the test for a young woman's dream to raise money for a small town struggling to pay its bills

Iyonia Noble, who was featured in The Post and Courier in October, is hoping Fall Fest 2009 raises $2,000 for summer youth programs. Admission is $1 at the door for adults and children older than 2.

To draw a crowd, she found a sponsor to donate oysters and crab legs; tickets for the oyster roast and crab crack are $12 in advance and $20 at the door.

But that's not all. She also recruited 27 vendors to offer elephant ears, funnel cakes, cotton candy, snow cones, turkey, barbecue fish and chicken.

Those who like hot dogs can wolf down all they can eat in five or 10 minutes by paying $1 to enter a contest.

Other attractions include free horse rides, flag-football competition, a cakewalk and an evening dance.

Ra Ra Bracey will put on a comedy show for $8. Free entertainment includes The Bad Moon Band, First Agenda's rap music, Djole African Drums and Tiera Brown's free Latin dance lessons.

The day also includes health seminars and the Army rock-climbing wall.

The festival starts at 9 a.m. and continues until midnight at the town hall complex on West Broad Street (off Lincolnville Road, which runs between Main Street in Summerville and Ladson Road).
