Folly Beach man charged in robberies
Concerned citizen, leads developed by detectives led to arrest, according to public information officer
A Folly Beach man was arrested Thursday and accused of robbing two pharmacies in the city of Charleston, police public information officer Charles Francis said.
Nicholas David Swanson, 25, of 602 E. Erie Drive, is charged with two counts of armed robbery. He was being held in the Charleston County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
On Nov. 13 about 1:30 p.m., a man entered the CVS Pharmacy at 983 Harborview Road and demanded OxyContin, a prescription pain killer. The man implied he had a weapon but he did not display one, Francis said.
About 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man entered the CVS Pharmacy at Maybank Highway and Folly Road and handed the pharmacist a note saying he was armed with a handgun. He then demanded two prescription drugs and left the store with the drugs.
The arrest was a result of a leads developed by detectives after the robberies and the assistance of a concerned citizen, Francis said.
The Charleston Police Department was assisted by the Folly Beach Public Safety Department, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the Mount Pleasant Police Department and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, Francis said.
The investigation into the robberies is ongoing, Francis said.
