Slawson, Ellington named to Elite team

COLUMBIA -- Fort Dorchester's R.J. Slawson and Berkeley's Bruce Ellington, a pair of standout basketball players headed to the University of South Carolina, were named to the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association's preseason Elite team on Wednesday. The Elite team includes the top five players in the state, regardless of classification.

Slawson had a big junior season and was arguably the top wing man in the state last year.

Ellington a point guard, missed most of his junior season with an injury, but had a most impressive summer as part of the AAU Team Trademark Team.

Lowcountry teams were well-represented in the preseason Class AAAA polls.

Defending state champ Goose Creek heads the boys' poll, while Fort Dorchester is fifth and West Ashley is 10th.

The Goose Creek girls are ranked third in Class AAAA.
