Charleston Beer Exchange a beer lover's dream

By Jack Hunter, Special to The Post and Courier
Thursday, November 19, 2009

Writing a bar column for The Post and Courier, I often comes into contact with certain places that aren't exactly bars but are certainly spirit-related.

The Charleston Beer Exchange is such a place.

At the risk of being grammatically redundant, the Charleston Beer Exchange is a place that specializes in specialty beer. Small-batch, home-grown, organic, single malt. You name it, the exchange is a one-of-a-kind Lowcountry spot for true beer connoisseurs.

The Charleston Beer Exchange holds frequent tastings and has a special Exchange Club, in which regular customers are rewarded with all sorts of brew-related goodies for their continued patronage.

Another popular offering is "rare beer Tuesdays," in which hard-to-find and unusual beer is tapped and served to adventurous tasters.

The exchange offers their tastings both in-house and at various locations that entertain and educate the curious, focusing on the different styles and national origins of the various beers they feature.

Being the "Charleston" Beer Exchange, it is no accident that the store is one of the few retail outlets where you can find locally brewed, organic beer "Coast."

One need not be a brew expert to enjoy what the Charleston Beer Exchange has to offer. But one might soon become an expert by frequently enjoying its offerings.
