Aranda
Rockers head to Goose Creek after making connection with ... Kelly Clarkson?
Oklahoma City rockers Aranda take the stage at The Dive in Goose Creek on Saturday. The family band from America's breadbasket is touring with fellow rockers Halestorm and is promoting its second single, "Whyyouwannabringmedown," from its self-titled album.
Gabe and Dameon Aranda have been singing together to their mother's Beatles records since they were 6 years old.
If you are a fan of Kelly Clarkson, then you’ve heard two Aranda songs. She picked “Whyyawannabringmedown” and “All I Ever Wanted” to cover on her new album and selected the latter track to be the title of her own album.
Their cousin, Chad Roper, started playing bass with the musical brothers in middle school, and they finalized the band lineup after meeting drummer Matt Walker.
"Whyyouwannabringmedown" is an energetic song of rebellion that is catchy and stylish. The track also was selected by WWE as the theme song to the wrestling event "The Bash." Kelly Clarkson heard the album through its producers, Sam Watters and Louis Biancaniello, and asked the band if she could cover the tracks "Whyyouwannabringmedown" and "All I Ever Wanted" on her new album, which she coincidentally named after the latter Aranda song. The band responded to her with enthusiasm.
"We said, 'Sure. You're Kelly Clarkson,' " pianist/vocalist Gabe Aranda said.
The debut album is a versatile work, displaying influences and styles from all eras of rock 'n' roll. Brothers Gabe and Dameon each sing their own songs, and pair their voices on several tracks together. Although the music is well-put-together, the most impressive part about this band is the harmonious voices. The vocals display precision and never cease to impress the listener.
The first single off the album, "Still in the Dark," broke into the Top 30 Active Rock Radio charts. The boys from Oklahoma hope to outdo themselves with "Whyyouwannabringmedown."
"We need to have something to give to radio," Gabe said.
During the past year on tour, the young rockers from Oklahoma have shared the stage with some big names, such as the All American Rejects, Saliva, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Theory of a Deadman and Papa Roach.
Their current tour with Halestorm, another up-and-comer in the rock scene, has provided fans with a crisp brand of polished guitar work and untouched original music.
"People are liking this new, fresh blood coming up," Gabe said. "(It) speaks to the talent level."
Due to the current trends in the music industry, the boys have been out on the road for some time.
They were on tour with Papa Roach and Jet throughout the majority of the fall and will be playing with Halestorm and Adelita's Way up until the holidays.
The show at the Dive isn't Aranda's first rodeo.
"It used to be (that) the music was where you made your money, but now what I'm noticing is it's more about your merchandise and the actual tour," Gabe said. "We're really just trying to make that mark, let people know we're here."
