Junior Astronomers
Relatively new to the regional music arena, Charlotte's Junior Astronomers is a band best experienced live. The young quintet possesses all the assets of a performance powerhouse.
Electrifying and melodic, check.
Chaotic but never sloppy, check.
With hints of indie, post-punk and garage heavyweights including Cursive and TV on the Radio, Junior Astronomers deliver a sound that is never boring and as young as the band itself.
The Junior Astronomers will perform tonight at the Tin Roof, 1777 Magnolia Road, with Sleepy Eye Giant and Hip Young Gunslingers.
Larry Keel and Natural Bridge
Larry Keel's mastery of bluegrass guitar has taken him many miles in his musical journey.
Keel first emerged from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia at the age of 18 and quickly found himself in the unlikely settings of Tokyo.
Employed as a bluegrass guitarists for Tokyo's Disneyland theme park, Keel performed six shows a day, six days a week to curious spectators, and most had never even heard of bluegrass.
After returning to the states, Keel made his way to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado, where he won first place in the festival's renowned guitar contest.
After several years of performing with a multitude of bands and other bluegrass musicians, Keel now heads up the innovative Larry Keel and Natural Bridge.
On Saturday, the Pour House, 1977 Maybank Hwy., will welcome the band along with special guest Tony Rice.
Tickets are $18 at the door or online at etix.com. Visit www.charlestonpourhouse.com for more information on the show.
