Byars to run in Dorchester County

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

SUMMERVILLE -- Businessman Jay Byars will run for the Dorchester County Council District 7 seat held by its chairman, Jamie Feltner.

Byars, co-owner of a mortgage company, said Tuesday he will file for the office in March. In a news release, he said he is running to address a vacuum in leadership on the council, attract jobs, build solutions to transportation problems, create education opportunities and craft a vision for the Oakbrook area he would represent.

Taxpayers "have every right to expect a more fiscally conservative approach, given the state of our economy," he said. Byars and Feltner are Republicans and would face off in a June primary if Feltner files for re-election. Byars, 37, is an Ashborough East resident and former Dorchester District 2 schoolteacher.
