Food drives: Tricounty Family Ministries is spearheading a Food for All program at local Publix stores. Donate during the holiday season at the stores by selecting a donation coupon at checkout. The gift goes directly to local anti-hunger organizations.
Also, all local UPS stores are hosting a "Holiday Feast" food drive benefiting the Lowcountry Food Bank through Nov. 23. Bring a nonperishable food item donation to any local UPS Store and receive $1 off any product or services offered (excluding postage stamps & postal services).
Book signing: Local cookbook author Holly Herrick will sign her "Southern Farmers Market Cookbook" (Gibbs Smith, June 2009) at 5-7 p.m. Nov. 28 at O'Hara & Flynn, 225 Meeting St.; 5-8 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Preservation Society, 147 King St.; 8 a.m.-to noon Dec. 5 at the Charleston Farmers Market, Marion Square; and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Mount Pleasant Holiday Farmers Market, next to Moultrie Middle School.
Darkness to Light: Sixteen chefs from Charleston restaurants will showcase their skills as part of the CNN Circle of Light Gala on Thursday. Marion Square will be transformed into scenes from India for the eighth annual event, which will include gourmet cuisine, wines, a live auction and Bollywood-style entertainment. The event benefits Darkness to Light, an organization that helps prevent and raise awareness about child sexual abuse. Tickets are $300. FIG Dinner: FIG restaurant, 232 Meeting St., will host chef Chris Hastings of the Hot and Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, Ala., for a dinner at 6 p.m. Sunday.
