Investigators charged Clayton Jefferson, 22, of Mount Pleasant with assault with intent to kill, said Capt. Stan Gragg. He said the same charge is pending against DeAngelo Coakley, 20, of Mount Pleasant.

Gragg said the shooting happened at 1:10 p.m. at 3500 U.S. 17 North. The victim told officers he had an "altercation" with a group of men at the Walmart near Oakland Plantation and the men followed him back to the construction site.

One of the suspects fired a handgun about seven times, striking the victim's truck twice.

The suspects fled the area.

Gragg said Jefferson was arrested late Monday.
