The images that artist Kevin Neumayer creates are intricate designs with layers and bursts of warm colors.

“She’s Just Mad” by Kevin Neumayer

Each painting is a detailed representation of a dream that Neumayer has had that he brings to life with pen, ink and guasch paint, a type of paint that can be as thick as acrylic or as opaque as watercolor.

"My dreams are colorful nightmares. All the dreams I've had since I was a child have stayed with me; I remember them the same way I would remember a children's book," he said. "That transition between dream and nightmare is when most of the ideas for my paintings occur."

Each painting takes Neumayer 2-3 months to complete; he never works from a photograph.

About his relationship to art, Neumayer said, "Artwork is a means to an end, not a financial end, but to an emotional place that can't be reached any other way."

Meet the artist and view his artwork Saturday evening at Rick Rhodes Photography Gallery.

Next Event: Meet the artist, 3-7 p.m. Saturday at Rick Rhodes Photography and Imaging, 1842 Belgrade Avenue. Free.
