South Carolina-born Trevor Hall got his musical start when he was just 14 years old after his musician father asked a friend to record the youngster in his studio.
Though Hall only sold copies of the recording session to friends and family, the seed of a musical career had been planted. It was only a matter of time before that seed sprouted.
While still in high school, Hall moved to the Los Angeles area where he studied classical guitar at Idyllwild Arts Academy.
It was there that Hall's deep, gritty and effervescent voice intertwined with a contemporary reggae musical style and captured the attention of Geffen Records.
The media giant promptly signed the high school senior and funded the recording of "The Elephant's Door" in 2007.
Though Geffen dropped him in 2008 and the album was never released commercially, Hall was able to record with such famed producers as John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews) and The Laboriel Brothers (Sting, Paul McCartney) as well as tour with some of his biggest influences, including The Wailers, Ben Harper and Stevie Nicks.
Trevor Hall will perform Saturday at the Music Farm, 32 Ann St., as a special guest for Matisyahu. Tickets are $25 in advance at the door or online at etix.com and $30 the day of the show.
Doors open at 8 p.m. for the show. Visit musicfarm.com for more information on the show, which is presented by The Bridge at 105.5 FM.
