Second annual Rural Mission Oyster Roast
Rural Mission will host an oyster roast benefit 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Bowen's Island Restaurant, 1870 Bowen's Island Road. All proceeds go to support the outreach ministry and volunteers of the Rural Mission in providing a hand up to low-income families, the elderly, migrants and children. Lowcountry's AIDS Walk at Hampton Park
Roper St. Francis Healthcare and its Ryan White Program is preparing for the AIDS Walk beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday at Hampton Park downtown. Everyone is encouraged to save the date, show their support and come out and walk during this community event. Walkers may register online at www.rsfh.com/aidswalk or by calling 402-CARE (2273). The $20 registration fee will include a T-shirt featuring artwork by Charleston artist Tim Hussey.
The 1-mile walk will take participants around the historic park's central pond. Afterward, there will be an open-air market featuring fresh produce and food vendors along with children's activities and a silent auction. Educational materials also will be available, and local people affected by HIV/AIDS will display "Living Quilt" panels they have handcrafted.
Money raised will go to the Ryan White Program's Medication Endowment Fund.

New Music Collective presents internationally known instrumentalist Tatsuya Nakatani
Tatsuya Nakatani is originally from Osaka, Japan. In 2006, he performed in 80 cities in seven countries and collaborated with 163 artists worldwide. In the past 10 years, he has released nearly 50 recordings on CDs. He has created his own instrumentation, effectively inventing many instruments and extended techniques. He uses drum sets, bowed gongs, cymbals, singing bowls, metal objects, bells and various sticks and bows to create an intense, organic music.
Nakatani and collaborator Eugene Chadbourne will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Redux Print Studio, 136 St. Philip St., downtown. Admission at the door is $10 and $5 for students. Those who are under 18 get in free.

2009 Kiawah Arts Fest
Visit the Sandcastle Community Center on Saturday and Sunday for the 2009 Kiawah Arts Fest. Local artists will display fine arts, crafts and photography for entertainment and purchase. The arts fest is open to all Kiawah Island and Charleston area residents (request a pass for the arts fest event at the Kiawah main security gate) 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

'Giggles for the Girls' free improv night
"Giggles for the Girls" is an improv comedy night that benefits the Charleston County Junior Miss Scholarship Program and will take place at 8 p.m. Nov. 19 at Theatre 99, 280 Meeting St., downtown.
The event is open to all high school juniors to earn college scholarship money. Comics will include members of The Have Nots and Mary Kay Has A Posse.
All ages may attend, and 100 percent of the $20 ticket price goes toward scholarships. Tickets can be purchased by e-mailing leighann@c4women.org or calling 763-7333, ext. 201.
