Pineville man dies in truck crash

Thursday, November 12, 2009

A Pineville man died Wednesday after his pickup truck ran into a ditch near St. Stephen.

John Rembert, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7 a.m. wreck, said Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury.

Authorities say Rembert was driving a pickup truck north on S.C. Highway 45 when he attempted to pass a school bus.

He lost control and the pickup went off the left shoulder, said S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers. Rembert over-corrected and the pickup truck then went off the right shoulder and into a ditch, he said.

It was raining at the time, and Salisbury said weather appears to be a factor in the wreck.

Salisbury said Rembert was not wearing a seat belt.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
