Tax talk tonight in Summerville
A lawmaker who is pushing to eliminate South Carolina's personal and corporate income taxes by eliminating sales tax exemptions will talk about the plan in detail at 7 tonight in Summerville.
Rep. Rex Rice, R-Easley, will present his bill, the South Carolina Fair Tax Act, at the Summerville Church of Christ, 413 Old Trolley Road.
Rice's bill would eliminate the state's 7 percent personal income tax and its 5 percent corporate income tax by doing away with the roughly 300 exemptions in the state's sales tax code. The idea is similar to the national Fair Tax effort that seeks to scrap the nation's income tax code and replace it with a consumption tax.
