Updated 10:37 a.m., November 9, 2009
A woman was flown to the Medical University Hospital with life-threatening injuries this morning following a collision with an 18-wheeler on U.S. 17.
The woman, driving a 1997 Mercedes Benz, pulled out of a gas station parking lot about 9 a.m. and into the path of the tractor-trailer, said Maj. John Clark of the Charleston County Sheriff's office.
He said the wreck occurred in front of 4217 U.S. Highway 17, in between Davidson Road and the S.C. Highway 162 intersection.
Lanes in both directions were closed temporarily. Clark said the scene has been cleared as of about 10:20 a.m.
No charges are expected at this time, he said.
