Bucs net first league volleyball road win

RADFORD, Va. -- Charleston Southern (16-14, 6-8) posted its first Big South Conference volleyball road win of the season, a 3-0 victory over Radford (12-19, 2-13) on Saturday.

The Bucs won 25-22, 25-17, 29-27 in their fifth straight victory. CSU was led by Amanda Hill with 13 kills, seven digs and a service ace. Nichole Diller added 11 kills.

--The College of Charleston (15-11, 11-3) swept to a 3-0 home victory over Davidson (7-22, 4-9) in a Southern Conference matchup. The Cougars won 25-14, 29-27, 25-19. Cole Dawley led C of C with 25 assists, 11 digs and five kills, and Jennifer Darty had eight kills.

College soccer

The No. 2-seeded College of Charleston (12-6-2) plays No. 4 seed Davidson (11-9-1) in the final of the SoCon women's tournament today at UNCG Stadium in Greensboro.

Head coach Kevin Dempsey guided the Cougars into the championship round for the second time in program history. C of C lost to Furman in the 2002 final. In Friday's semifinals at UNCG, the Cougars won, 6-5, in penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw through two overtimes. Davidson advanced by upsetting top-seeded UNCG, 1-0, behind Lauren Connors' goal in the 19th minute.

College swimming

Randy Buchanan and Gracie Herlong paced the College of Charleston swimming and diving teams with three first-place finishes a piece as the men's team (1-2, 1-0 CCAA) dropped a 178-120 decision to East Carolina (2-1) and the women's team (3-4, 3-3) fell 195-99 to the Pirates (2-1) at the Stern Center.

College wrestling

N.C. State grabbed a 21-18 victory at The Citadel 21-18 in the Bulldogs' opening dual match of the season. The Bulldogs' Odie Delaney had a pine over Christian McClean at 197 pounds. Derek Sickel (165) and J.C. Oddo (174) won decisions for The Citadel, and Kelby Smith (184) won by injury default.
