DOT panel gets new member

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Ken Willingham, president of North Charleston-based Thompson Trucking Co., has been appointed as the at-large member of the state Department of Transportation Commission.

Willingham succeeds Tee Hooper from Greenville. A Mount Pleasant resident, he has a civil engineering degree from The Citadel and worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and military police after college. Willingham recently served for two years on the Charleston Area Transportation Study Policy Committee and also as a member of the Mass Transit and Human Services Transportation Programs Study Committee.

The seven-member board governs the DOT. Other members are selected from South Carolina's six congressional districts.

Willingham was appointed by Gov. Mark Sanford and confirmed by the state Senate during last week's special session.
