Two killed in wreck after police chase

Two people died in a wreck near McClellanville after a chase with Charleston County deputies.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. after deputies responded to a reports of gunfire at Club 17 North on U.S. Highway 17 near McClellanville.

Deputies tried to stop a vehicle leaving the club, but the driver sped away, according to a statement by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

On S.C. Highway 45, the driver lost control of his Jeep Cherokee and went off the road.

Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the SUV and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. Authorities have not yet released the names of those who died.
