N. Chas. fire sends man to hospital

Saturday, November 7, 2009

A North Charleston man was hospitalized Friday after suffering from smoke inhalation when a fire damaged his Bailey Street home, a fire official said.

North Charleston firefighters were dispatched to 2278 Bailey St. about 3:30 p.m. when a neighbor saw the house on fire, said Bianca Sancic, fire public information officer.

Three engine companies, two ladder trucks and a rescue unit responded to the blaze, which was declared under control after about 20 minutes. The house had significant damage, Sancic said. The resident was taken to a hospital by Charleston County EMS.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation, Sancic said.
