Robinson out of AD search

Former Citadel athletic director Les Robinson will not be the new AD at Coastal Carolina, Robinson said Thursday night.

Coastal Carolina, in Conway, is searching for a replacement for athletic director Warren "Moose" Koegel, who is taking a new job as a fundraiser at the Big South Conference school.

Robinson said Coastal Carolina contacted him "some time ago" about his interest in the job.

And the 67-year-old said he would have been interested in taking the job on an interim basis.

"My thinking was that I could be there as an interim AD for three to six months, evaluate the program and help them hire the perfect candidate," he said. "But they were more interested in a full-time AD. I couldn't in good faith take the job and move there for three to five years."

Coastal Carolina received about 120 applications for the job, and a search committee narrowed that list to 12 last month, the Myrtle Beach Sun-News reported.

Clemson senior associate athletic director Bill D'Andrea removed his name from consideration for the job last week, according to the Sun-News.
