Bishop England keeps rolling in AA playoffs
PAWLEYS ISLAND -- The Bishop England volleyball team's quest for its 10th straight Class AA state championship remained alive Thursday night as the Bishops topped Waccamaw 25-12, 25-5, 25-12 in the Lower State championship.
The Bishops will battle Gilbert in the state championship at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at White Knoll High School. Gilbert beat Chesnee 3-1 to advance and set up a rematch of last year's title match.
The victory gave the Bishops 49 straight postseason tournament victories. The Bishops have swept every playoff match since they posted a 3-1 victory over Chapman in the 2004 state championship.
The Bishops have won 19 volleyball state championships, which is the most in state history.
Pickens is second on the all-time list with 13.
