The Recovery Room a major player of the downtown bar scene

The Recovery Room

Attracting college students, musicians, food-and-beverage folks, blue collar workers, white collar workers and everyone in between, longtime Charleston bartender Chris "Boston" Dimattia's vision for his own bar began to take shape when he opened The Recovery Room over a year ago. It worked.

On upper King Street, The Recovery Room is far removed from the hustle and bustle of the businesses in and around the College of Charleston, yet it has remained high-profile based solely on its reputation. I know plenty of people who tend to only frequent downtown bars on weeknights, including yours truly, because they are too busy on weekends. An exception is The Recovery Room, not only because there is plenty of parking, but their Saturday night crowd might not be as hectic as expected.

The Recovery Room's menu has everything from corn dogs to chicken wings, tater tots to fried mushrooms. The bar features a late night menu (served until midnight), Sunday brunch and breakfast all day. Fun events include "amateur pole dancing" on Mondays (its innocent, folks) "guest bartenders" on Tuesdays and trivia on Thursdays. Hip without being pretentious, hidden yet high-profile, The Recovery Room is a great downtown bar for many reasons, not the least of which is how different it is than all the rest.
