Reflections of the Soul
Local artist James Christopher Hill will be showing his newest collection tonight at the North Charleston Art Gallery inside the Charleston Convention Center at 5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston.

Hill's latest works are ultravibrant and dramatic landscapes and skyscapes with an abstract twist.

Artists and chefs
Creative Spark Center for the Arts' annual Art on the Beach and Chefs in the Kitchen fundraiser Sunday offers guests a guests a peek into historic homes and artist' studios on Sullivan's Island.
The event pairs artists with renowned chefs. Following the afternoon's festivities, guests will congregate for an art and music reception at Station 22 Restaurant.
Tickets for the event, which is 1-5 p.m., can be purchased to include the entire tour and reception for $35. Patron tickets are also available for $150, which includes the tour, golf cart rides, $100 towards the purchase of art and an event poster featuring artist Kathy Sullivan.
Advance tickets are available at Creative Spark (881-3780 or www.creativespark.org) and at Sandpiper Gallery on Sullivan's Island.
All proceeds benefit Creative Spark's scholarship fund.
Charleston Crafts Coop
In celebration of its 20th year of business in Charleston, the Charleston Crafts Gallery is moving back to the French Quarter in a more prominent location on Church Street.
An opening reception for its more than 30 artists is planned at 5-7 p.m. Friday at the new location, 161 Church Street.
Festivities will begin at 5:15 p.m. with a ribbon cutting by Mayor Joe Riley. Wine and refreshments, including artistic pieces constructed with food, will be served. Cellist Joshua Miller will provide live music.
The co-op's artists will be present and guests will be treated to drawings for handcrafted items from the artists. Call 723-2938 or visit www.charlestoncrafts.org.
Grant writing workshop
Starving artist in need of some cash? Maybe it's time to learn how to write a grant proposal to bring in money so you can create your work.
Here is one possible answer to financial woes.
On Nov. 9, the College of Charleston School of the Arts and the Arts Management Program are hosting a National Endowment for the Arts Grants Workshop, conducted by Douglas Sonntag, dance director, and a South Carolina Arts Commission Grants Workshop, conducted by Jeanette Guinn, performing arts director.
This workshop will take place beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the College's Health and Human Performance Alumni Center, 86 Wentworth St.
Public parking will be available in the Wentworth Garage.
There will be a light lunch hosted by the city of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and then a meeting for dance organizations and dance presenters with Sonntag.
The second portion of the event will take place at The City Gallery at Waterfront Park, 34 Prioleau Street.
