Get crafty at annual Harvest Fest
According to the organizers of Harvest Fest, "In agricultural communities, families often gather together in the fall to celebrate the beginning of harvest season and to give thanks for the plentiful crops."
This Saturday, that traditional celebration will be in full bloom.
Harvest Fest 2009 will be held at the Mullet Equestrian Center at Johns Island County Park and will feature a scarecrow-making contest, craft shows, dancing, lasso demonstrations, bluegrass, pumpkin decorating, antique tractor displays, horse demonstrations, pony rides, hayrides, chain saw art, tons of food and more. Old MacDonald might have had a farm, but it's doubtful he ever had this much fun.
Past Harvest Fests have proven to be successful, staying true to the many agricultural-oriented traditions and pastimes that first inspired the event. Johns Island has been an ideal setting for Harvest Fest, an event associated with the fall season in the Lowcountry, not unlike the Coastal Carolina Fair.
And with numerous activities to keep the kids busy and more grown-up offerings, particularly music, arts and crafts, Harvest Fest has plenty for the whole family.
