CSU's Boyce earns Big South honors
Spartanburg -- Charleston Southern's Marky Boyce was named the Big South Conference women's soccer player of the year on Wednesday.
Boyce became just the second Buccaneers player to earn the honor, with the first being Carrie Terrill in 2001.
Caitlin Wesnesky joined Boyce on the first team, while Sarah Catenacci and Jen Vroman both landed on the all-conference second team.
Morgann Wood and Rebecca Hollstegge both earned nods on the Big South All-Freshman Team, and Lindsey Trexler found a spot on the all-academic team.
Charleston Southern will face Radford in the first round of the Big South women's soccer tournament today at 7 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium.
--Coastal Carolina's Junior Anna Tupy and senior Dana Gentile both were also named to the all-Big South first team, while seniors Maegen Hellberg and Sarah McPartlan were both second-team selections. Morgan Thomas was named to the all-freshman team.
--Citadel women's soccer coach Bob Winch was named the Southern Conference women's soccer coach of the year.
This season, Winch coached the Bulldogs to a school record eight points (5-12-2, 2-7-2 SoCon) and a ninth-place finish in the SoCon, the highest SoCon finish in program history.
--The College of Charleston women's soccer team garnered three All-SoCon accolades.
Senior defender Brittany Schneider earned first-team all-conference honors for the second straight year, junior defender Annie Pease received second-team all-conference honors while midfielder Alyssa Bearden was named to the all-freshman team.
The No. 2-seeded Cougars travel to UNC Greensboro this weekend for the SoCon Tournament. They open against No. 3 Samford on Friday at 5 p.m.
Men's college soccer
Clemson freshman forward Austin Savage, a former Stratford High standout, was named by the Atlantic Coast Conference as its men's soccer co-player of the week after leading the Tigers to a pair of wins over ranked opponents.
Savage scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over No. 11 N.C. State and two goals in the Tigers' 6-0 win over North Greenville.
College basketball
The Citadel basketball team will host the 19th annual 'Meet the Bulldogs' today at 4:15 p.m. in McAlister Field House.
Fans can meet and greet the Bulldogs while watch the 20-minute Blue-White intrasquad scrimmage.
Stingrays hockey
The defending Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays added Braden Holtby to their roster.
Holtby was sent to the club by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
Holtby, 20, is 1-1-1 with a 3.60 GAA and a .891 save percentage in three games played with the Stingrays.
College swimming
College of Charleston's Randy Buchanan and Davidson's Emily Castle were named the CCSA men's and women's swimmer of the week, respectively, while College of Charleston's Peter Gibbons and Florida Gulf Coast's Karmin McNamara were named the men's and women's diver of the week, respectively, for meets competed Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
College volleyball
Junior Ginny Phillips posted eight kills, five digs and five blocks and junior Cole Dawley notched a match-high 29 assists as the College of Charleston (13-11, 9-3) defeated The Citadel (7-21, 2-9) 25-18, 25-16, 25-14 on Wednesday at McAlister Field House.
