It's a gem right in the middle of downtown, often overlooked.
Colonial Lake has been a fixture of Charleston for a long time, having first received its paved sidewalk in 1903. But since then, there have been only small and modest improvements made to the greenspace, such as manicured lawns and a few trees planted.
On Sunday, the Charleston Parks Conservancy will hold the Colonial Lake Fall Festival noon-5 p.m. Its goal: to share the organization's vision to revitalize a largely overlooked and underutilized space in the heart of the city. The event, which is open to anyone, is free to attend.
Local businesses and community groups will be on hand to showcase displays of what things might be like in the future as well as answer any questions attendees might have. The Hank Marley Band will provide music, and there will be bocce ball, bean bag toss and shrimp net toss for the kids.
