Charleston police arrest 6

Charleston police arrested six people on drug charges during a three-week investigation of narcotics activity in the H Street area.

The investigation was conducted by the department's Special Investigations Unit and its Team One patrol unit based on information provided to the police by concerned residents, police public information officer Charles Francis said Tuesday. All of the arrests took place last week.

All of those charged were taken to Charleston County jail. Some of them may have been released on bail.

Charged with distribution of cocaine base and distribution of cocaine within close proximity of a school are:

Quinton Lamar Mitchell, 26, of 2 H Street; Vanessa L. Frayer, 39, of Elsey Drive; Ervin Johnson, 21, of Drake Street; and Graylin L. Whaley, 25, of Harris Street. They all were arrested by the department's Special Investigations Unit.

Those arrested by Team One officers are Jamaal K. Lockwood, 24, of Reid Street, charged with possession of cocaine base; and Timothy T. Smith, 23, of Apartment Boulevard, North Charleston, who is charged with possession of cocaine base and trespassing.
