Gordon says he may contest
RAVENEL -- With only three seats up for election and four candidates on the ballot Tuesday, one town council hopeful was going to be disappointed.
In this case, it appears to be Willie Gordon, who finished at the back of the pack in the at-large race.
With all the votes counted, unofficial returns showed incumbents Laura Parker and Robert L. Cochran winning their bids for re-election, with candidate Harold Dukes Jr. also taking a seat.
Unofficial returns showed Parker with 28 percent of the vote, followed by Cochran and Dukes each at 26 percent.
"I just thank everyone for their support," said Dukes, who served previously on council in the 1990s.
Gordon drew about 21 percent. He said late Tuesday he was not ready to concede and that he may challenge the election.
The results come as the town is grappling with growing pains and modernizing services in an increasingly popular part of southern Charleston County.
